If you had to spend time in jail, in which country could you best be? And where definately not? This week Metropolis gets jailed all over the world and compares the differences between prisons worldwide. All fifty correspondents were asked to request permission to film in a local prison, only twelve of them succeeded.
This resulted in some amazing stories, like the one about a miss pageant on Death Row in Kenya, or the 200 prisoners crowded together for moths in a police cell in Rio de Janeiro. In La Paz, Bolivia we’ll visit the San Pedro prison, which is more like a small town than a prison. The prisoners rent their cells, and there are many shops in the narrow alleys inside the walled prison area. And in Poland Justyna tags along with a group of inmates who are allowed to leave prison for 10 days to participate in a pilgrimage to Czestochowa. When a local woman expresses fear for her possessions, a priest reassures her: “They won’t steal Ma’m, they’re all killers.”
