Kaarmanbek from KyrgyzstanName: Kaarmanbek Kuluev
Location: Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
Age: 23
Favorite website: www.youtube.com - there is so much of trash, but so much of interesting things as well
What’s your favorite place?
I love walking barefoot along the cost of the lake, it helps me to relax. Then, you can see a boat, where a young couple is making love, and you realize that life is not ending…
If you could change something about your country, what would that be?
Our geographical location – we have no access to the ocean, and that limits our export abilities (and I always wanted to become a sailor).
What’s your view on Holland?
Homosexuals, light drugs, euthanasia, Guus Hiddink – everything is possible, no need to limit yourself.
If you could export a feature of your country, what would that be?
The nomadic life. Eventhough we live in cities, every summer we go to the mountains for a nomad’s life – living in nomad houses, riding horses, milking cows, chopping wood for fire, just like our ancestors used to live.
If you could erase a feature of your country, what would that be?
Can’t even imagine. We are so perfect.
Who would you like to see as the next American president?
Barack Obama. You see when I was a kid I used to be a bit darker than my classmates and they used to call me black (also, cause I loved rap). So, now I support everybody else with dark skin. He is like my brother from another mother. Well, if I were called a pussy in childhood, who knows, maybe I would support Hillary Clinton or Sarah Palin…
What are you doing in ten years?
Actually, I used to believe that I’ll become a millionaire when I turn 25. So, I have 2 more years to go. Still, I wonder how it will happen… maybe I’ll get a check via mail, or one of those spam letters on my e-mail will be real and I’ll be “next of kin” for some kind of Yukos or Bank of Nigeria… In ten years, I think, I’ll stop dreaming of this bullshit.

What does the world think about America? In this special edition of Metropolis that was produced right before the 2008 presidential elections, we asked our correspondents to find stories that show how people in their country look at the USA. Despite the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Americans are still very popular in most parts of the world. We witness the many remarkable influences that America has on the world, from the first Harley Davidson Club in Shanghai to Obama-supporters in the Kenyan village Nyangoma- Kogelo, the hometown of Obama’s half-brother. He has mixed emotions about the successful campaign of his ‘Baby Brother’, as he calls Barack Obama. He thinks that his popularity is great for Kenya, but he despises the commercial exploitation of Obama’s portrait. Everywhere you look you will find T-Shirts and DVD’s of Barack Obama, and the salesmen make good money, while his family doesn’t receive anything.
